Summary

This is the way the world ends。。。 for the last time。

The Moon will soon return。 Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women。

Essun has inherited the power of Alabaster Tenring。 With it, she hopes to find her daughter Nassun and forge a world in which every orogene child can grow up safe。

For Nassun, her mother's mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late。 She has seen the evil of the world, and accepted what her mother will not admit: that sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed。

The remarkable conclusion to the post-apocalyptic and highly acclaimed trilogy that began with the multi-award-nominated The Fifth Season。

Wow。 Just…wow。 I started The Broken Earth series a week ago, and could not stop until I finished all three books。 The very beginning of the first book caught me in its net by its unique storytelling technique。 As I got further into the tale, I could not help but align this story with the story we actually live in the real world。 Thank you, N。 K。 Jemisin, for taking me on this journey。 I am so glad to have found you no your writings (and thank you John Scalzi for recommending this on Twitter)。

Having conflicting feelings over this book?? While reading this I was like I'm going to give this 3 stars。。。Why? Well for one, I would always fall asleep during *'s chapters。。。Part of it is because there would be a lot of description for stuff and it was hard for me to keep track of。 But also this happens in every fantasy I read sometimes my little silly brain can't keep up。 BUT THE ENDING。。。。DAMN。 Looking back at Essun's journey is so gut wrenching。。。which is funny that I say this because befor Having conflicting feelings over this book?? What a world she created。 Have never read anything quite like it。 Breath-taking trilogy; each book better than the next and the first one simply marvelous!

What a ride these last 12 days have been…

N。K。 Jemisin really put her whole foot in this one。 I really liked the deeper dive into the lore in this book, and it felt like it had more breathing room in general。 A very solid ending for the trilogy。

All the questions are answered! This trilogy wraps up in a great conclusion, no strings are left hanging。 Our heroes are given their due。 This is without a doubt the best modern sci-fi series that exists。

Avril Martin

Jemisin is absolutely brilliant。

Karlos

This book, like the rest in the series, was wonderful。 Highly recommend the audio narration by Robin Miles

Shanda

Everything is brilliantly linked together。

Charlene

Serious topics mixed with humor。

Least favorite of the trilogy。 A tedious end to an otherwise very new and exciting fantasy world。 While the story has deeper meaning to race/necessity/etc, it detracts and distracts from the overall story。 in the end the seasons end, however what begins?

Marlowe

This was a really good ending to the trilogy; satisfying and so, so heartbreaking。

A great ending to an amazing trilogy。 I still like the first book of the trilogy the best, that one blew me away。 But it was a very satisfying ending。 I love all the characters and the different relationships between them。 I also really liked the fact that it turns out the second person POV was there for a reason, not just as a fun unusual gimmicky thing。The only negative for me were the chapters in the past, with the ‘backstory’ on one of the characters。 It went a bit over my head and I often d A great ending to an amazing trilogy。 I still like the first book of the trilogy the best, that one blew me away。 But it was a very satisfying ending。 I love all the characters and the different relationships between them。 I also really liked the fact that it turns out the second person POV was there for a reason, not just as a fun unusual gimmicky thing。The only negative for me were the chapters in the past, with the ‘backstory’ on one of the characters。 It went a bit over my head and I often didn’t understand what was going on there。 All in all a great book though。 I’m very glad I read this whole trilogy and will definitely pick up more Jemisin。 。。。more

This series felt like one complete, wonderful book。 It achieves precisely what it sets out to accomplish, and is a moving, earth shaking ride。

Nassun is awesome in this book and the Syl Anagist world building elements are very cool (demonstrate that people can still do the wrong thing even when they think they’re guided by their morals)。 Tbh wish it was a bit shorter though。

so beautiful, absolutely perfect

There is a significant drop off here at the end。 A bit too much dailiness, too many words, and some don't make a lot of sense。 This book does some plodding when it should be hurtling。 It is a heck of an accomplishment overall, the world she has created, with its strong invention and characters, but I was barely moved at the end when I should have been。 It is a good ending, but not great。 There is a significant drop off here at the end。 A bit too much dailiness, too many words, and some don't make a lot of sense。 This book does some plodding when it should be hurtling。 It is a heck of an accomplishment overall, the world she has created, with its strong invention and characters, but I was barely moved at the end when I should have been。 It is a good ending, but not great。 。。。more

Damn。 What a finish。 Well done, N。K。 Jemisin。

A Satisfying ConclusionThe author added a new voice and angle to sharing the narrative in this final book of the Trilogy。 More reveals, things you couldn’t have seen earlier, but which align and make sense not that they are established。 Very much enjoyed this finish。

Holy crap, this series is awesome。 I definitely have a few favorite author。 So so so good。

After 2 books and 300+ pages, I just quit。 Book one was okay--not great-- and then it went downhill from there。 I do not understand how this book and series has such a high score。 It was so painfully boring。 If I could rewind time, I would skip it altogether。

I love this trilogy so much! Gotta thank my bookclub friends for leading me to the good stuff in the science fiction fantasy genre otherwise I would’ve completely missed out on this gem。
